JAN Trust Director awarded OBE!

Congratulations to our Director, Sajda Mughal, on being recognised with an OBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list 2015!

Ms Mughal came on board to the charity following her experience of suffering terrorism in the 7th July 2005 London bombings where she narrowly escaped being seriously injured or killed. Since then, she has worked tirelessly to empower those from under-represented groups and provide a voice for women, combat violence against women, work towards countering terrorism, and provide young people with the tools to achieve their ambitions in society.

Since her near death experience she has been spearheading the Haringey women’s charity, JAN Trust, where she has developed a range of innovative projects.

Sajda said: “I am honoured to be awarded an OBE. It is such an achievement to be recognised for the work I have been carrying out with disadvantaged women and youth, encouraging community cohesion and strengthening families to build safer and stronger societies. I am flattered to receive this award.”

Ms Mughal’s work has been commended by a number of dignitaries including MP’s, Ministers and the Rt Hon David Cameron Prime Minister and MP. She was also invited to visit 10 Downing Street, and has been awarded numerous awards for her work. Recently, she was named by the Evening Standard as one of the Top 1000 Influential Londoners – Campaigner.

Sajda’s work has been covered by a range of national and international press including the BBC, The Independent newspaper, Daily Telegraph, Channel 4, LBC radio and ITV.

JAN Trust has won multiple awards, including The Third Centre Awards for Excellence 2013 in the category of ‘Small Charity Big Achiever’ as well as The Centre for Social Justice Award 2013.

Sajda’s OBE follows that of JAN Trust Founder, Rafaat Mughal, who was recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours list 2014 for her 26 years of work to empower and educate disadvantaged women and youth.

We wish Sajda every success for the future and hope thousands more women and families continue to benefit from her work!
