Projecting British Muslims in India
A four member Muslim delegation from United Kingdom, visited India with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to assist in eradicating misconceptions Indians may have about Britain, British Muslims and its multicultural society.
The delegation comprised of two males and two females who visited Bangalore, New Delhi, Bhopal and Mumbai during their stay in India. Sajda Mughal (JAN Trust), who was part of the delegation promotes women’s empowerment and carries out extensive interfaith and cohesion work which stems from her experience as the only known Muslim survivor of 7/7 London bombings.
Sajda and the group met with different social, educational and civil society personalities to also understand the key interests and concerns of Muslims in India and share the experiences of British Muslims. The delegation met several Muslim communities in India and shared the cultural, educational and social living conditions of Muslim communities in both the countries.
Furthermore, they met with the Minorities Minister of India, Salman Khursheed, National Commission for Minorities Government of India and the British High Commissioner.
