The internationally renowned Mukhtar Mai recently visited JAN Trust. She gained her prominence as champion of women's rights in 2002 when she challenged the Pakistani gender status quo, demanding reparation for the violence and trauma of the state sanctioned rape she had suffered in Pakistan.
In 2004, TIME Magazine listed her as one of the world's most influential people. The following year US Glamour name her as its "Woman of the Year" and in 2007 she was awarded the North-South Prize from the EU Council of Europe for her contribution to human rights.
We would like to wish Mukhtar the best of luck for the future and hopes she keeps up her much needed work.
